Anakeesta: A Mountaintop Afternoon in Gatlinburg

A summer chairlift ride led to gardens, rope bridges, mountain views, cold beer, and a look at Anakeesta's adventure attractions.

Trip at a glance

  • Date: August 2018
  • Destination: Anakeesta in Gatlinburg
  • Highlights: Scenic lift, gardens, rope bridges, and mountain views

Riding above Gatlinburg

The chairlift carried us from downtown to a mountaintop village with food, beer, desserts, and activities. August heat made the cold beer especially welcome once we reached the top.

Exploring the mountain

We crossed the rope bridges, walked among flowers, and stopped repeatedly for the view. Ziplining and the rail runner offered more action, but our visit was mostly about the walking course and scenery.

Final thoughts

Anakeesta can be either an adventure stop or a slow scenic afternoon. For us, the lift ride, mountain air, bridges, and a drink with a view were enough.

Plan your own trip

Anakeesta Day Guide

Plan Anakeesta as a half-day or evening destination, with enough daylight for views and enough darkness for seasonal lighting when offered.

01

Start with the right base

Choose lodging by the activities you will actually visit, not only by the lowest nightly rate. Check parking, drive times, cancellation terms, and seasonal demand.

02

Mountain plan

Before you go

Check current lift options and weather; wear secure walking shoes; review height and weight rules for paid attractions; budget separately for food and add-ons.

Keep it balanced

Choose one priority experience, one flexible stop, and enough unscheduled time for meals, weather changes, and discoveries along the way.

03

Use our trip as a starting point

The original story shows what worked for us and what we would change. Prices, hours, menus, ships, excursion operators, and attraction features may be different now, so verify the details that matter to your group.

Best fit

This trip suits travelers who enjoy mixing a headline experience with local food and a few spontaneous stops instead of following a rigid schedule.
