Pigeon Forge: A Cabin, Dollywood & Parrot Mountain

A cabin weekend between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge combined Dollywood, family-style Southern food, hands-on bird encounters, and a favorite pizza stop.

Trip at a glance

  • Date: June 2017
  • Base: A cabin between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge
  • Highlights: Dollywood, Parrot Mountain, and Paula Deen's Family Kitchen

A cabin between both towns

Our cabin's pool table and hot tub gave us things to do without driving back into traffic. The location between Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge made it a flexible base for the weekend.

Dollywood and family-style food

Season passes brought us back to Dollywood, while Paula Deen's Family Kitchen at The Island served refillable family-style country cooking. Arriving hungry mattered because the meal was built for sharing.

Parrot Mountain

Near Dollywood, Parrot Mountain let us see, feed, and hold many bird species. The interaction made the admission feel worthwhile rather than turning the stop into another walk-through exhibit.

Pizza on the way home

Scratch Brick Oven in Johnson City operated from a house and served fresh pizza that became one of our favorites.

Final thoughts

The cabin balanced the attraction days, and Parrot Mountain supplied the surprise. This was a strong Smokies formula: one major park, one smaller interactive attraction, one memorable meal, and time to enjoy the lodging.

Plan your own trip

Dollywood, Parrot Mountain & Cabin Guide

Balance one full Dollywood day with a smaller interactive attraction and unhurried cabin time.

01

Start with the right base

Choose lodging by the activities you will actually visit, not only by the lowest nightly rate. Check parking, drive times, cancellation terms, and seasonal demand.

02

Weekend plan

Before you go

Choose lodging for the route you will actually drive; reserve major meals; check current bird-interaction rules at Parrot Mountain; leave one evening for the hot tub or cabin.

Keep it balanced

Choose one priority experience, one flexible stop, and enough unscheduled time for meals, weather changes, and discoveries along the way.

03
