Carnival Dream: Grand Cayman, Jamaica & Cozumel

A New Orleans departure led to Caribbean brewery tastings, river rafting and jerk chicken in Jamaica, and a relaxed Cozumel beach-house day.

Trip at a glance

  • Ship: Carnival Dream
  • Departure: New Orleans
  • Ports: Grand Cayman, Montego Bay, and Cozumel
  • Bonus: Our first New Orleans visit and a Saints game

A first taste of New Orleans

We arrived a day early for my wife's first New Orleans visit. An Uber brought us downtown for the French Market, shops, and a parade. Coop's Place supplied Cajun food and Abita Purple Haze, while Café Beignet added the classic sweet stop.

Grand Cayman: Beer, rum, and cake

Our tour included Cayman Islands Brewery, a rum stop with cake, and a generous tasting at Cayman Spirits. It was a flavorful alternative to a standard beach day and showed us more of the island's local producers.

Montego Bay: Rafting and jerk chicken

Rafting mixed action with swim stops, sugar cane, coconut water, and river-stone foot rubs. One person in our group learned why keeping feet tucked matters after falling from the raft. The day ended with the best jerk chicken I had tasted.

Cozumel: A private-feeling beach day

An all-inclusive beach house gave us a pool, snorkeling, food, and drinks without turning the day into a race. It was the calmest of the three port experiences.

A Saints game before home

Back in New Orleans, we attended our first NFL game. Even the highest seats gave us a good view, though we left at halftime before the 13-hour drive.

Final thoughts

Each port had a clear identity: local drinks in Grand Cayman, adventure and food in Jamaica, then relaxation in Cozumel. Adding New Orleans made the journey as memorable as the cruise.

Plan your own trip

Grand Cayman, Jamaica & Cozumel Cruise Guide

Give each port a different role: local flavors in Grand Cayman, an active excursion in Jamaica, and a slower beach day in Cozumel.

01

Start with the right base

Review the current itinerary, port times, documentation, and excursion requirements before booking. A pre-cruise hotel night protects the trip from a long drive or travel delay.

02

Port plan

Before you go

Arrive in New Orleans early; verify tender procedures in Grand Cayman; follow rafting safety instructions in Jamaica; compare Cozumel all-inclusives by transport, shade, food, and water access.

Keep it balanced

Choose one priority experience, one flexible stop, and enough unscheduled time for meals, weather changes, and discoveries along the way.

03

Use our trip as a starting point

The original story shows what worked for us and what we would change. Prices, hours, menus, ships, excursion operators, and attraction features may be different now, so verify the details that matter to your group.

Best fit

This trip suits travelers who enjoy mixing a headline experience with local food and a few spontaneous stops instead of following a rigid schedule.
